Duterte Ceremonial Toss at Gilas-France game, Gilas loss

FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, France, Philippines, Gilas Pilipinas

President Rodrigo Duterte attended the game between the Philippine men’s national basketball team and France to start of the Fiba Olympic qualifying tournament. The president perform the ceremonial toss. He was wearing a brown polo and jeans and despite the bad weather, he supported Gilas Pilipinas. He arrive at the MOA Arena in Pasay City after making a speech at the Philippine Air Force in Clark, Pampanga.

Gilas Pilipinas wants make history in eyeing the lone ticket to the Rio Olympics. The country’s basketball team last made an appearance in the Summer Games in 1972 in Munich.

Even though, the Philippines team had an impressive run in the first half they fall in the hands of the world’s 5th best team, 93-84.

Tony Parker scored 21 points, including crucial baskets during winding moments of the game. Andray Blatche finished with 21 points.

France will take on New Zealand on Thursday, while the Philippines will try to get back on track against the New Zealand’s Tall Blacks in Wednesday’s second game.
