Former Chief Justice Andres Narvasa died

Former Philippine Supreme Court Chief Justice Andres Narvasa, 84 died on Thursday, October 31. He was declared dead at 6:05 a.m. no cause of death was released. It was reported by the Public Information Office of the Supreme Court.

He was the 19th chief justice from December 1991 to November 1998. He also acted as the chief defense counsel of former President Joseph Estrada during his impeachment trial in 2000.

He was also the general counsel for the Agrava Fact-Finding Commission, which looked into the death of former Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr.

Detalye: Ganito inilarawan ng vendor na si Cris Suratos ang nasaksihang pagpapakamatay ng isang 19-anyos na lalakeng graduating student ng University of Santo Tomas (UST) na tumalon mula sa rooftop ng isang condominium building sa Malate, Maynila kahapon ng hapon.

Details: This is how vendor Cris Suratos described the witnessing suicide of a 19-year-old male graduating student of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) who jumped from the rooftop of a condominium building in Malate, Manila yesterday afternoon.

Nakilala ang sinasabing nag-suicide sa pangalang Leonard Joseph Torres, 19-anyos, Physical Therapy student ng UST.

The person who allegedly committed suicide was identified as Leonard Joseph Torres, 19-years-old, Physical Therapy student of UST.

May iniwan umanong suicide letter ang nasawi kung saan nakasaad dito ang kanyang mga hinanakit na siyang pinaniniwalaang nagtulak sa kanya para magpakamatay.

“Im not a P.T. All those days that I tried. I failed I thought that it would get better but it didn’t. It get worst. I was giving up,until today where I can’t do anything. Anymore. I give up,” bahagi umano ng suicide letter ng biktima.

It is said that the deceased left a suicide letter in which he stated his grievances which are believed to have pushed him to commit suicide.

"I'm not a P.T. All those days that I tried. I failed I thought that it would get better but it didn't. It got worse. I was giving up, until today where I can't do anything. Anymore. I give up," said part of the victim's suicide letter.

Nagpakamatay si Torres sa pamamagitan uamno ng pagtalon mula sa ika-27 palapag ng Kassel Condominium na matatagpuan sa panulukan ng Taft Avenue at Vito Cruz Street sa Malate dakong ala-1:45 kahapon ng hapon.

Torres committed suicide by jumping from the 27th floor of the Kassel Condominium located at the corner of Taft Avenue and Vito Cruz Street in Malate around 1:45 yesterday afternoon. 

Samantala, ipinapalagay nina SPO2 Marlon San Pedro at SPO1 Ronald Gallo, mga imbestigador ng Manila Police District-Homicide Section, na hindi na umano nakayanan marahil ng biktima ang matindng galit na kinikimkim sa kanyang mga magulang nito na nagpumilit sa kanya na kumuha ng kursong Physical Therapist kaya ipinasiyang magpakamatay.

Meanwhile, SPO2 Marlon San Pedro and SPO1 Ronald Gallo, investigators of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section, assumed that the victim could no longer cope with the intense anger he harbored against his parents who insisted him to take a Physical Education course. Therapist decided to commit suicide.

Nalaman na graduating student na umano ang biktima at kasalukuyang nagte-training sa isang tanggapan sa Makati City.

It was learned that the victim is a graduating student and is currently training at an office in Makati City.

“Bago nagpakamatay `yung biktima matagal pa muna itong nakaupo doon sa rooftop, kinausap pa ito pero hindi pa rin napigil tumalon pa rin,” ayon kay SPO2 San Pedro.

Nalaman na tinangka umanong pigilan ni Michael de la Cruz, 28, na maintenance ng nasabing condominium at ng security guard na si Benito Tenorio, maging ang mga kasama nito sa tinutuluyan pero hindi na napigil na tumalon ang biktima.

Bumagsak umano ang biktima sa bubungan ng rectifying power ng Light Rail Transit (LRT) station sa may Vito Cruz kung saan nauna ang ulo nitong bumagsak.

"Before the victim killed himself, he had been sitting there on the rooftop for a long time, he talked to him but he still couldn't stop himself from jumping," according to SPO2 San Pedro.

It was learned that Michael de la Cruz, 28, the maintenance of the said condominium and the security guard Benito Tenorio, tried to stop him from staying, but the victim could not be stopped from jumping.

It is said that the victim fell on the roof of the rectifying power of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) station in Vito Cruz where he fell head first.

“Para siyang si Superman na lumilipad, nakita ko na siya nung nagtatangka pa lang na tumalon sa rooftop kaya nga tumawag ako ng pulis at rescue team,” ayon naman sa vendor na siSuratos, na nakakita sa pagtalon ng biktima.

"He was like Superman flying, I saw him when he was just trying to jump from the rooftop so I called the police and the rescue team," according to vendor Suratos, who saw the victim jump.

An earthquake with magnitude 7.1 hit the Fukushima region of Japan on Saturday. It triggered a tsunami that smash into 3 cities

A magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck off the Fukushima region of Japan on Saturday local time, triggering tsunami-driven waves that hit three cities that are included in the 200-mile stretch of the east coast that was under a tsunami alert.

The tsunami waves are three feet or less and the first wave hit Soma, Kamaishi, and Ishinomaki-shi Ayukama, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The epicenter was located 231 miles east of Japan's Honshu Island at a depth of 6 miles. It was also felt 300 miles away in Tokyo.

MANILA - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) may intervene in the love affair of Freddie Aguilar who is now 60 year old singer and her 16-year-old girlfriend.

The singer was criticized for his admitted relationship with a minor. A report said that the “Anak” singer may be sued for child abuse or seduction by being in a relationship with a minor.

The Revised Penal Code states that seduction of a girl who is under 18 years of age is considered a crime against chastity. While Child abuse is a public offense that can be filed by the DSWD for the victims under Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

“The girl is considered a minor under the law. That means she is vulnerable to abuse, and not yet capable to discern,” Dulfie Shalim a DSWD Protective Services Bureau officer said.

Three buildings of Ateneo de Manila University stand on the West Valley Fault


The Greater Metro Manila Area (GMMA) Risk Analysis Project (RAP) showed that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake along the West Valley Fault may cause the death of 37,054 people and may cause up to P2.4 trillion in damages.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) director Renato Solidum added that powerful earth quake like that could also injure 16,000 people.

“A magnitude 7.2 and 6.5 earthquakes along the West Valley Fault can cause severe damage to Metro Manila,” Solidum said at the project launch at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Quezon City yesterday.

The study estimated the risks for three hazard types – flood, earthquake and severe wind. The towns of Rodriguez, Angono, Cainta, and Taytay and the city of Antipolo in Rizal were included in the study.

Also Philvolcs found out that three buildings of Ateneo de Manila University stand on the West Valley Fault.

Ka Freddie admitted to reporter of pep.ph Glenn Regondola last Sunday at the 5th Star Awards for Music at Solaire Resorts and Casino that indeed he has a girlfriend who is a minor. But he clarified that he has her parents’ blessings and is ready to marry her when she’s legal. He also said that they have discussed the prospect of having a baby.

Centra Philippines was struck by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake early Tuesday. Reports said that 20 people are dead and 33 are missing.

Buildings were crumbled and people are sent panicking into the streets. At least 15 were killed in Cebu city, 4 killed in Bohol and 1 died in Siquijor Maj. Reynaldo Balido said.

Most of those killed were hit by falling rubble, the Philippines News Agency reported.

At least 33 people were missing, and authorities were checking into reports of people trapped in collapsed buildings in Cebu and Bohol, the agency reported.

The quake was centered about 385 miles (619 kilometers) south-southeast of Manila, near Catigbian, and its depth was 12 miles (20 kilometers), according to the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Mercury Drug owner Tops BIR's Taxpayers list

Vivian Que Azcona owner of Mercury Drug is the BIR's top individual income taxpayer for 2012, stated on the report of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). She paid P131.43 million in income tax.

The report is on the Top 500 income taxpayers for last year released by BIR yesterday.

TV host Wilfredo Buendia Revillame or Willie Revillame, is in second. He payed an income tax of P63.9 million.

At No. 3 was Estelito Mendoza of E.P. Mendoza Law Office, his income tax is P56.59 million.

Kristina Bernadette Aquino, or “Kris,” youngest sister of President Aquino, was in 6th place, she paid P44.93 million.

John Lloyd Cruz and Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan settled for eighth and ninth place, with tax payments of P42.79 million and P42.025 million, respectively.

The Zobel brothers took the 10th and 11th spots. Fernando Zobel de Ayala paid P40.85 million and Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala II, P40.78 million.

The BIR earlier explained that the list of top taxpayers was based on regular income taxes paid resulting from transactions and not static assets.

This means a tycoon who has much bigger assets could possibly trail behind someone in terms of income taxes paid.
Excluded

The list of top individual taxpayers excluded those whose taxes were withheld and paid on their behalf by companies that employ them.

UP Officials: Solis stole photos for 7 contests

MANILA - Mark Solis, the UP student who plagiarized professional photographs and submit it to photo contests as his own had submitted plagiarized photos to at least 7 competitions.

This is the result of the investigation done by the University of the Philippines (UP) special committee who were task to probe the public administration graduate student Mark Joseph Solis.

“He submitted pictures that were not his despite the rules of the contests that the person should be submitting original work,” UP National College of Public Administration (NCPAG) dean Fe Mendoza said yesterday.

The report shows that Solis had been plagiarizing photos since February 2011 when he was still a Political Science undergraduate student at UP.

Mendoza said the report “enumerates resolution of some issues related to student conduct and discipline which at this point, the college may not be in the best position to resolve alone.”


“It is in this light that I am elevating the matter to your level for your more competent resolution. The college will still help; just let us know how,” she said.

The report said the NCPAG could elevate the case to higher university authorities for appropriate action.

The committee said the NCPAG would also have to decide on the status of Solis as a graduate student.

Mendoza also said that Solis ask advice from her and was remorseful for his actions and looked thinner when she met him last week.

The Chilean Ambassador said they will not press charges against Solis. The OPAPP on the other hand, is investigating the incident involving its own photo competition.

MANILA, Philippines— The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) will investigate if there are possible tax violations committed not only by Janet Lim-Napoles but also her children.

BIR Chief Kim Henares said during an interview, “We want to know how much is their total tax liability”.

The BIR already filed tax evasion complaint before the Department of Justice against Janet Napoles and her husband Jaime. Her total tax liability is P44.68 million while her husband’s liability is P16.43 million.

The BIR also filed a separate tax evasion case against Napoles’ youngest daughter Jeane Catherine for failure to file income tax return for 2011 and 2012.

Henares said the young Napoles was able to acquire a condominium unit at the Ritz Carlton in Los Angeles, California worth P54.73 million; and has a share, equivalent to P1.49 million, in a Bayambang, Pangasinan property purchased in 2012 without declaring any income. Jeane was heavily criticized through social media for flaunting her lavish lifestyle.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) are now searching for the ugly Filipina girls shown on the video to file appropriate case.

Filipino Farmers accused and file plunder against President Aquino and Agri Officials

Manila, Philippines - Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and its affiliates, which are national organization of farmers filed plunder charges against President Benigno Aquino III, Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, other government offials and individuals. It was filed at the Office of the Ombudsman

Contained in the complaint-affidavit, the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and its affiliates said that the  Department of Agriculture (DA) accredited this year three bogus non-governnment (NGOs) organizations that misuse millions from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF):
  •     Kabuhayan at Kalusugan Alay sa Masa Foundation Inc. (KKAMFI)
  •     Gabay at Pag-Asa ng Masa Foundation Inc. (GPMFI),
  •     Kaupdanan Para sa mga Mangunguma Foundation Inc. (KPMFI)–
These are the same NGOs that are in the P10-billion ($230.41 million) pork barrel scam that involves Janet Lim-Napoles.

They cited the Commission on Audit (COA) special audit from 2007 to 2009.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala is charged for violating Republic Act 7080 or the Anti-Plunder Law; Violation of Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Reform Act; Violation of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act; Violation of Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Government Officials and Employees; Malversation of Public Funds; and Grave and Serious Misconduct.

Other officials of Department of Agriculture Antonio Fleta, Ophelia Agawin, Arnulfo Manalac, Salvador Salacup and Irene Alogoc were also charged.

Budget Secretary Florencio Abad and Undersecretary Mario Relampagos were also held liable for signing and releasing the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) and Notice of Cash Allocation to the DA.

President Aquino was also charged of plunder by virtue of the Doctrine of Qualified Political Agency.
