32 Dead in a Bigtime Drug Operation in Bulacan in 24 hours

In a span of 24 hours 32 drug suspects dropped dead and 107 were arrested in Bulacan during a police’s anti-drug operations.

Grenades, illegal drugs, firearms and ammunition were recovered from “simultaneous one-time, big-time operation” by the Bulacan police from 12 midnight of August 15 to 12 midnight of August 16, the Bulacan provincial police office said in a statement on Wednesday.

The latest number of killed suspects was the result of the Bulacan Philippine National Police’s continuing effort to cleanse the province of illegal drugs.

According to Senior Superintendent Romeo Caramat Jr., police provincial director in Bulacan, said that 67 simultaneous police operations were conducted by 24 police stations in Bulacan including the Bulacan Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) and Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) “in an effort to continue with the relentless drive against illegal drugs, loose firearms and implementation of search warrant in the Province of Bulacan.”

Data from Bulacan police said that a total of 367 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu approximately weighing 234.4292 grams; 765 grams of marijuana leaves; 2 grenades; 34 assorted firearms; 114 pieces of ammunition were recovered during 49 buy-bust operations, serving of 14 search warrants and three checkpoint operations.

The operations took place in Angat, Balagtas, Baliwag, Bocaue, Bustos, Calumpit, Guiguinto, Hagonoy, and Malolos.

New Modus: Fake LTO Victimizing Motorist

There are criminals in the street of Metro Manila who are pretending to be officers from Land Transportation Office (LTO) and they are victimizing motorist. Feliz Marie Galpao posted that she was almost victimized by a fake LTO officer. She narrated that the suspect has been following them along Makati – Magallanes route and they failed to take him seriously because he’s not wearing proper uniform and he's just wearing jacket.


"We were along Makati – Magallanes when this “LTO guy” motioned us to stop. When we opened the window he was already shouting at us. Galit na galit, kanina pa daw nya kami pinapahinto pero “tinatakbuhan” namin sya. Yes, nakita namin sya before BUT we did not realize na pinapara nya kami. We were not paying attention to him since he does not look like an officer at hindi kita ang uniporme. He was wearing a jacket! Hindi talaga namin napansin”. Ms. Galpao narrated.

The fake officer was angry because they failed to stop, Ms. Galpao asked if there's a problem.

“He told us: “Nakita ng supervisor ko na sira ilaw nyo sa likod, pinahabol kayo sakin, kanina pa ko sumisenyas tas tinakbuhan nyo ko!”. Galit na siya at matapang.”

However, when Ms. Galpao asked for mission order and ID, the fake officer cannot show anything to prove that he’s indeed an LTO officer. He just started to rant to his victims and even challenged them to call the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte.

“Tawagan nyo pa presidente!” and “Taga LTO ako, alam ko mga ganito” etc. Pinipilit nya kami na tinakbuhan namin sya. Nag-sorry kami sa kanya dahil hindi namin talaga sya napansin”.

She also recorded a cellphone video of the suspect who insisted that his victims trying to flee from him, but it has now been set to private.

The victims wanted to avoid more trouble and not escalate the situation surrendered her driver’s license to the suspect, but the fake officer didn’t gave any ticket to them. Luckily, a real Skyway Patrol Officer showed up clarified that the suspect is not their member and only trying to extort money from other people. They also got their license back from the suspect.

Philippine Senator Questions UN for Double Standard Why is UN silent on murders in Chicago?

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Richard Gordon on Monday accused the United Nations for double standard he questioned why deaths and murders in Chicago (murder of the US), have been ignored by the United Nations but in case of the drug-related killings in the Philippines they blame it on the current government of President Rodrigo Duterte.

"Yung sinasabi natin, 545 [murders] sa Chicago, isang siyudad sa United States of America, bakit hindi ginugulpi ng UN yan?" Gordon, new chairman of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, said. [translatioin: We are saying 545 murders in Chicago, a major city in the United States of America, why the UN are not questioning them]

At the fifth Senate hearing on extra judicial killings, Gordon said that as of Oct. 1, 2016, there have been 545 killings in Chicago alone. Yet, he said, the UN has been silent on this, while the Philippines, with around 3,000 drug-related killings in the whole country since July 1, has been scrutinized not only by the UN, but by US President Barack Obama as well.

There have been 560 murders in Chicago this year starting January 1, 2016 according to the Chicago Tribune.

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, meanwhile, stated that he was so surprised with the statistics regarding Chicago. He also said that if the human rights record of the United States is so bad, "I think we should review the Philippines giving aid to the US and stop it in the meantime." He was referring to two US senators who have said that the US might reconsider aid to the Philippines because of a law that prohibits assistance to foreign military units that violate human rights.

US Sen. Patrick Leahy said the law is meant "to ensure that the US is not complicit in human rights violations committed by forces that might receive US assistance, and to encourage foreign governments to hold accountable perpetrators of such abuses."

President Rodrigo Duterte has said in the past that the US should not criticize the Philippines because it has cases of black people being killed by police, events that US President Obama has spoken against. The United Nations has also called the US government's attention to cases of police abuse in the past.


If you also compared the people killed during the past Administration of President Benigno Aquino Jr to President Duterte, there are less killings now.

Police Spot Checking On Bus to Fight Crimes

Almost daily you will hear in the news about passengers of buses being robbed at gun point or with a knife along EDSA. Good thing PNP Chief Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa ordered police to do spot checking on buses along EDSA (from Monumento to Pasay) to fight crimes. Holdaper, snatchers and other criminals will have to think twice before doing something against the law.

To make sure that policemen are doing their job the police officers need to to list the plate number of the bus, the time of inspection, together with the signature of the bus conductor.

Malaysian Navy detains three Filipino fishermen in South China Sea

A Malaysian naval patrol has detained three Filipino fishermen for encroaching in territorial waters in the disputed Spratlys this month, according to the Philippine military. This is the first incident involving the Southeast Asian neighbors.

The Philippines and Malaysia have overlapping exclusive economic zones in the disputed South China Sea. Many experts believed that the South China Sea is rich in deposits of oil and gas. The South China Sea is almost entirely claimed by China.

But Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also claim the sea, through which about $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year.

According to reports, on May 9, 2016 a Philippine vessel was about 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Commodore Reef, one of nine Philippine-held territories in the South China Sea, when a Malaysian patrol boat intercepted it for encroaching in territorial waters.

The Filipino vessel attempted to flee, however the Malaysian patrol vote gave chase and was able to caught up with the Philippine vessel. The Filipinos fishermen were detained and after a couple of hours they were turned over to Philippine troops stationed on Commodore Reef, a Philippine navy spokeswoman said.

"The Western Command is saddened by the incident involving our fellow Filipinos," Captain Cherryl Tindog said in a statement, adding that the fishermen received medical treatment. "They are in stable condition, except for some bruises."

The fishermen complained of having been punched and kicked during questioning by the Malaysian Navy after being apprehended, Tindog added.

"We were treated like criminals," Nelson Plamiano, one of the fishermen, told broadcaster GMA 7.

MANILA, Philippines – Expect to have a rainy Monday (June 22) for both Luzon and Visayas, according to PAGASA. On their latest bulletin, it said that  both Luzon and Visayas will likely to experience light to moderate rains and thunderstorms. The sky is also expected to be cloudy.

In Mindanao, skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy bringing isolated thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Because of the warm and humid weather condition the country is experiencing, PAGASA is likely to declare the start of the rainy season soon.

Reporter stabbed and robbed in Pasay City Philippines

A Philippines News Agency reporter was stabbed and robbed in Pasay City last Sunday September 7, 2014. The victim who is a reporter from state-run Philippines News Agency is identified as Ferdinand "Bong" Patinio, 43, a resident of Pasay City.

He was rushed to San Juan De Dios Hospital after being stabbed twice. No vital parts were hit and he is now out of danger and recovering. It happened in front of his house at the corner of EDSA and Cabrera Street at about 12:30 a.m. Patinio was waiting for his friends outside his house when six men aged 14 to 16 ganged up on him stab him twice. The robbers took his iPhone 5S smartphone and left the scene.

Meralco raised Yellow alerts because of tight power supply

Luzon is still reeling of tight power supply because of the effect of typhoon Rammasun (Glenda) which have devastated the country and Meralco raised the Yellow alert since power supply situation remains tight for the Luzon grid.

So because of this expect brownouts on Sunday and the followings days specially if another major power plant shuts down this week.

Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla said “We are on yellow alert on Sunday to Friday, except Monday where we will be on red alert.”

Google removes "Blood Stained Singapore” blog that is anti-Filipinos

SINGAPORE - Google have taken steps to remove the "Blood Stained Singapore” blog that encourages Singaporeans to harass the Filipino living and working in Singapore.

The Singaporean authorities said last Thursday that they are looking into the anonymous “Blood Stained Singapore” blog. The blog told its readers to refuse to be served by Filipinos when eating at restaurants. It also suggest to shove Filipinos while in trains or other crowded places.

The blog post entitled, “Filipino infestation in Singapore — 5 point guide to showing displeasure without breaking the law” also tell Singaporeans not to help Filipinos involved in traffic accidents.

The blog which uses Google’s Blogger platform is no longer available. Google confirmed that the racist blog has already been removed from Blogger because it violates its policy on hate speech.

SWS: Poverty In the Philippines Increasing end of 2013

MANILA, Philippines - The year 2013 ended with more Filipino families considered themselves poor (mahirap), the Social Weather Stations (SWS) said in their report.

The survey was done from December 11 to 16 with 55% of the respondents or  11.8 million Filipino families consider themselves as poor, it is up from 50% three months earlier. 8.8 million or 41 percent of the respondents considered themselves food-poor, which is 4 points above the September result.

SWS interviewed a total of 1,550 adults in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and they were asked to rate themselves whether their families were poor, not poor, or borderline poor.

The rise in both self-rated poverty and food poverty was “roughly due to increases in all areas except Mindanao,” the SWS said.

The 2012 self-rated poverty was at 52%.

Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) Philippines

The destruction of the Super Typhoon Haiyan is catastrophic and the Philippine government is yet to assess the total damage as most of the provinces that are hardest hit like Tacloban city are cut off, no information are coming out of the island as telecommunication are down.

The storm clouds stretch about 1,120 miles engulfing most of the country. The super typhoon first hit the eastern island of Samar at 4:30 a.m. Friday that knocked power and communication and caused massive flooding.

Haiyan has already weakened Saturday and was no longer a super typhoon it has sustained winds of 145 mph (230 kph). But the storm could return to super typhoon status Saturday. The center of Haiyan will land again Sunday morning near the Vietnamese cities of Da Nang and Hue.

Haiyan, named Yolanda in the Philippines, retained much of its force as it moved westward Friday with sustained winds of 295 kph (183 mph), which put it well above the 252 kph threshold for a Category 5 hurricane, the highest category on the Saffir--Simpson scale.

In Manila, a portion of the ceiling at UP Town Center in QC has collapsed due to strong winds.

Hong Kong to scrap visa-free access for the Philippines

The South China Morning Post reported that Hong Kong lawmakers has voted 41-3 on a non-binding motion that will scrap the visa-free access of Filipino tourists to Hong Kong. They also passed a motion to impose sanctions to the Philippines.

Earlier Leung Chun-ying, Hong Kong's chief executive said that the Hong Kong government will impose sanctions against the Philippines if there are no concrete steps taken to resolve the issue of the victims of the hostage-taking incident that happened in Manila, Philippines last August 23, 2010 were 8 Hong
Kong people killed and 7 injured.

The non-binding motion is expected to exert pressure not only on the Hong Kong government but also the Philippines.

The victims families wants an apology from the president of the Philippines, compensation, punishment for officials involved and implement measures to protect tourists’ personal safety.

The relevant sanction measures should include:

1. the Hong Kong Government to suspend the procurement of Philippine products;
2. the Hong Kong Government to suspend the new round of negotiations on areas such as air freedom rights and trade, etc.;
3. except for the hostage incident, the Hong Kong Government to suspend all its dealings with the Philippine Government;
4. the Hong Kong Government to suspend inviting Philippine cultural organizations to Hong Kong to participate in the cultural and arts activities organized by the Hong Kong Government;
5. the Hong Kong Legislative Council to suspend its friendship exchanges and liaison with theCongress of the Philippines; and
6. the Hong Kong Government to call on the Hong Kong community and commercial sector to suspend their commercial and cultural exchanges with the Philippines, and call on the public to boycott Philippine goods

The Council also proposes to implement the economic sanction measures in phases by amending the
Immigration Ordinance:

Phase one: from 1 April 2014 onwards, to forbid the issuance of employment visas to newly-employed Philippine domestic helpers, but excluding the issuance of employment visas for employment contracts
which are renewed with the same employers during the period from 1 April to 31 December 2014;

Phase two: from 1 January 2015 on wards, to forbid the extension of Philippine domestic helpers’ limit of stay;

Phase three: from 1 July 2015 onwards, to forbid the issuance of entry visas to Philippine passport holders.

Three buildings of Ateneo de Manila University stand on the West Valley Fault

The Greater Metro Manila Area (GMMA) Risk Analysis Project (RAP) showed that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake along the West Valley Fault may cause the death of 37,054 people and may cause up to P2.4 trillion in damages.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) director Renato Solidum added that powerful earth quake like that could also injure 16,000 people.

“A magnitude 7.2 and 6.5 earthquakes along the West Valley Fault can cause severe damage to Metro Manila,” Solidum said at the project launch at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Quezon City yesterday.

The study estimated the risks for three hazard types – flood, earthquake and severe wind. The towns of Rodriguez, Angono, Cainta, and Taytay and the city of Antipolo in Rizal were included in the study.

Also Philvolcs found out that three buildings of Ateneo de Manila University stand on the West Valley Fault.

Taiwan, Philippines end dispute

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan and the Philippines restored relations this week after working for three months to ease anger over a fishing boat shooting incident that gutted normally friendly ties between two Pacific Rim allies.

Taiwan has lift the sanctions against the Philippines following a Philippine apology over the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman three months ago in disputed waters between the Philippines and Taiwan, Malacañang on Friday expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would normalize soon.

“We did get word that they are lifting sanctions, the ones that they levied because of the incident. But then, you know, hopefully this recent development will contribute to the resolution of the issue and then will return relations to normal,”  Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

“We have heard from some OFWs that they have been told by their co-workers waiting in Manila that they have been advised to prepare to be deployed,” MECO permanent representative Antonio Basilio said.

Taiwanese Foreign Minister David Lin announced the lifting of all sanctions Thursday night following the visit by MECO officials during which chair Amadeo Perez offered a verbal apology to Hung’s family.
This came a day after the National Bureau of Investigation announced its recommendation to file homicide charges against eight members of the Philippine Coast Guard for the death of Hung, who was killed when the Coast Guard men fired on a Taiwanese fishing boat allegedly poaching in Philippine waters last May 9. Taiwanese prosecutors also filed homicide charges in Taiwan against the eight coast guards.

Malacañang defended Ochoa on Alleged involvement in Customs corruption

Malacañang defended Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa Jr. against reports that tagged him in the alleged corruption within the embattled Bureau of Customs (BOC).

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte told that press that the reports that Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa Jr. is among the "padrinos" or godfathers protecting supposed corrupt leaders in the BOC is untrue.

"I understand that several sources have attributed some things to some personalities that have been named," Valte said at a press briefing.

"The ES has nothing to do with any transactions, any illegal or otherwise, that have been mentioned in the course of these reports. And that is it," she added.

Valte said it is "not uncommon" that the name of the Executive Secretary or any Cabinet official to be floated in such controversies

"At this point there are names that are being floated... He (Ochoa) said he would also want to hear these names," said Valte.

Corruption allegations in the BOC resurfaced after President Benigno Aquino III himself lambasted the agency for the supposed malpractice in the bureau.

He said that according to the Department of Finance, more than P200 billion in revenue slips through Philippine borders without going into public coffers.

"Saan po kayo kumukuha ng kapal ng mukha ang mga kawani sa ahensyang ito?" Aquino asked in his speech.

Cadavero sister said that they paid off jail officials, police to escape

MANILA, Philippines — The alleged leader of the Ozamiz robbery gang, Ricky Cadavero paid the jail warden and guards of the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City to let him escape. He also paid policemen of Cavite for his protection according to his sister Rosalinda, a Saudi Arabia-based housewife.

“They killed him for fear he would spill information about these payoffs. They knew that because of pressure he would eventually speak out,” said Rosalinda, 37, who is married to an Indian national in Saudi Arabia.

Rosalinda and her mother, Luzviminda, who are natives of General Santos City, admitted that Ricky, also called “Kambal,” 36, had led criminal activities in pursuit of money.

“But where did it go? Look at this, he had not even left a single cent for his burial. All the money he had stolen went to them (police and jail guards),” Rosalinda said in an interview at the Eastern Funeral Homes in Muntinlupa City where the body of Cadavero was being autopsied.

She added that in a telephone conversation sometime last December, Ricky told her that he was able to escape after he paid the jail warden of the New Bilibid Prison P500,000 and the jail guards P200,000 to P300,000 each.

“They allowed him to easily slip out of the (NBP),” Rosalina said. This was contrary to police claims last December 8 that three men posing as Cadavero’s visitors fired at the guards at the Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC) where he was being held prior to being transferred to the major compound.

Chief Supt. Benito Estipona, the sacked head of the Calabarzon police who was the director of the Southern Police District at the time, complained back then that the escape, which happened at 6 a.m., was reported to the police three hours later.

Two dead, 15 missing as ferry sinks off Masbate, Philippines

MANILA, Philippines - Two people were killed, fifteen are still missing, and 54 passengers and crew were saved when rescuers pulled them to safety after a passenger ferry sank while aboard a roll-on, roll-off ferry, off Masbate Philippines at dawn of Friday, officials said.

The ferry was travelling from Albay province in central Philippines to a nearby Masbate province when it sank. Government helicopters, Coast guard and navy vessels were searching the area for survivors. The officials are not certain of the exact number of people on board. The ferry's manifest listed 35 passengers and 22 crew, but provincial disaster official Bernard Alejandro said there were likely five more on board.

Amadeo Tan, a village chief in Masbate's Aroroy township, said his wife called him from the ferry when it was sinking.

Tan told a local TV news that he alerted local authorities and set off to the area.

"When we got there, we could no longer see any part of the boat. It had already sunk," he said.
