MANILA - Manila International Airport Authority general manager Ed Monreal said, that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport temporary closed its international runway for pothole repairs on Tuesday that severely limits its operations. The repair works, which started at 1 p.m., is expected to last for 4 hours,

Despite the closure, international flight operations will continue on a limited scale because the NAIA domestic runway can accommodate smaller aircraft, Monreal said.

"This pothole happened today in the course of flight operations. I ordered for an emergency repair disrupting our operations at this time of the day than wait for our daily runway closure after the last flight tonight," Monreal said in a statement.

"I will never compromise safety of flights and passengers," he added.

Saudia Airlines plane isolated at NAIA (Manila Airport) runway, Possible Hijacking or Bomb Threat

The commercial flight from Saudi Arabia was put on hold and has been placed in total isolation upon landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

The report said Saudia flight SVA 872 from Jeddah was isolated in a secluded portion of the Manila airport.

The Manila International Airport Authority said it is still confirming if the plane was hijacked, adding that it was isolated for security protocol.

Situation in the area remains unclear. Personnel of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group are seen at the site.

DOJ Dismisses "tanim-bala" Cases Against Airport Police, Personnel They Blame Others

Despite the video and witnesses, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has dismissed the complaints against policemen and security personnel of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) accused in a “tanim-bala (bullet-planting)” incident involving an American missionary Lane Michael White that happened last September.

In a resolution, Associate Prosecution Attorney II Honey Rose Delgado recommended the dismissal of the cases against airport baggage inspector Maria Cena, X-ray operator Marvin Garcia, and policemen – Chief Inspector Adriano Junio, SPO4 Ramon Bernardo, SPO2 Rolando Clarin, and SPO2 Romy Navarro.

Cena and Garcia were accused of planting evidence, while Junio, Bernardo, Clarin, and Navarro were accused of robbery/extortion.

The policemen, including Navarro, were also charged with violating Republic Act 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) and Republic Act 7438 (An Act Defining Certain Rights of Person Arrested, Detained or Under Custodial Investigation as well as the Duties of Arresting, Detaining and Investigating Officers).

“We do not find probable cause to indict respondents for all the cases filed against them,” read the resolution.

The 20 years old American missionary Lane Michael White complained that the police officers asked him to pay P30,000 in exchange for dropping the charges against him after a bullet was found in his luggage at the NAIA last September 17, 2015 while he and his family were about to board a flight to Coron, Palawan.

“We believe complainant White that the .22 caliber ammunition found inside his luggage is not his,” read the resolution which noted that a court already dismissed the case against the American for illegal possession of ammunition.

“However, we cannot say with certainty that it was respondents Cena and Garcia who inserted or placed the ammunition inside complainant’s luggage,” it stressed.

The prosecutor said that there is “a high probability that the ammunition was planted by another person or stranger to the case.”

Delgado cited that the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage did not show that the two airport security personnel planted anything in his luggage.

Though White underwent the initial security screening, Delgado noted that the flight was cancelled and his family had to stay overnight at the Executive Plaza Hotel.

“The luggage of complainant was left with the valet. The likelihood that the ammunition was planted during such time when the luggage was unattended is not remote,” she said.

Also, the prosecutor pointed out that upon careful evaluation of the incident “we believe that there are no sufficient proof to establish a case against SPO2 Clarin, PCINSP Junio, and SPO4 Navarro for robbery/extortion.”

“In robbery with intimidation of persons, the intimidation consists in causing or creating fear in the mind of a person or in bringing in a sense of mental distress in view of a risk or evil that may be impending, real or imagined. Records of the case failed to establish the element of intimidation,” the prosecutor explained.

Also the Kalibo, Aklan, Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 6 has dismissed the criminal case filed against a young couple Jerome Sulit and wife Rochelle who were caught carrying bullets at the Caticlan airport last April.

--- In my opinion the incoming DOJ secretary should look deeper into this and investigate Associate Prosecution Attorney II Honey Rose Delgado for incompetency regarding this matter. Why dismissed the case against the police who are clearly extorting money? Is she also blaming the Executive Plaza Hotel for it?

Balikbayan Signature Wallet with Php98,000 Stolen at NAIA XRay

A Filipina balikbayan from the US lost her branded wallet with Php98,000 cash in it. According to  report by TV Patrol reporter Mike Navallo, the Filipina balikbayan arrived from the US to visit her family living in Iloilo, but her trip were derailed when she lost her wallet containing large sum of cash after passing through the x-ray machine at the NAIA 3.

Filipina balikbayan Ann Margaret Anthony said that she entered Gate 1 of the NAIA airport terminal with 2 luggage and 1 hand bag. Before putting her handbag in the conveyor, she took out her wallet from the bag to deposit loose coins from her pocket and then she put her wallet back in her handbag, then put it into the x-ray conveyor.

She said that she was surprised when the x-ray conveyor stopped then it seems to reverse she wondered why it stayed there too long. She then proceeded to the airline ticketing office after to re-book her flight. When she is about to pay she was shocked when she can no longer find her wallet in her bag.

The stolen signature wallet cost about Php 40,000 and the cash in the wallet is Php 98,000, credit and debit cards, and pictures of her children.

She immediately went back to Gate 1 and ask to review the CCTV. However, the 4 CCTV's installed in Gate 1 are not working. Only the CCTV that is located far away from the crime scene were able to capture the footage that shows her making her way from the x-ray machine to the airline ticketing office.

Ceiling collapses at NAIA 3 (Philippines Manila Airport) injures passenger

A ceiling collapses at NAIA 3 (Ninoy Aquino International Airport - Philippines' biggest airport), that injured a foreign passenger. This is another hurdle to the infamous airport who is seen as among the worst in the world.

It happened at a restaurant at Terminal 3 of Manila airport and the collapsed ceiling scratched a male foreign passenger, according to airport spokesman David de Castro. Airport officials assist the injured passenger and he was treated but insisted on leaving on his flight for Japan hours later.

Terminal 3 is designed to handle 13 million passengers annually, it was built to decongest the capital's older terminals.

Passengers have complained of bullet planting, taxi scam, leaking ceilings, collapsed floors, malfunctioning equipment, congestion, and dilapidated facilities.

Congress Waiting for go signal for "tanim-bala" Inquiry

The House Committees on Good Government and Public Accountability and Transportation are waiting for House leadership instructions to start the probe on the infamous tanim-bala (bullet planting) scam that are prevalent at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Pampanga Congressman Oscar Rodriguez, chairman of the House Committee on Good Government and Catanduanes Congressman Cesar Sarmiento, chairman of the House Committee on Transportation which initially conducted a hearing on “tanim-bala” incidents at NAIA last September, said the 9 resolutions have yet to be referred to their respective committees.

“The probe has yet to be scheduled. Once the resolutions are referred to us, we would immediately start the investigation,” Rodriguez said in an interview.

Sarmiento said they are waiting for the House Committee on Rules’ go-signal to jumpstart the investigation. The Rules Committee is headed by House Majority Leader and Mandaluyong Rep. Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales II.

“It is still with the Rules Committee,” Sarmiento said.

Both Rodriguez and Sarmiento expressed readiness to conduct a full-blown probe on the bullet scam.

What else is new? Wall St. Cheat Sheet a financial media company in the U.S. tagged the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as number 8, among the 10 Worst Airports in the World because of overcapacity issues in terminals 1 and 3.

Those that are included are known for unkept and smelly bathrooms, extensively long lines, and rude airport staffs. NAIA’s terminals 1 and 3 are said to be “particularly crammed.”

The article even quoted CNN Travel: “Beleaguered by ground crew strikes, unkempt conditions, soup kitchen-style lines that feed into more lines and an overall sense of futility, NAIA brings the term ‘Stuck in the 1970s’ to a new level.”

It also stated that: "Despite overcapacity issues, Terminal 1 seems particularly crammed, and Terminal 3, which is new, is only occupied by minor carriers at the Manila-based airport."

NAIA Employees Caught Playing Computer Games

A photo of NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) employees playing games on their official work computers has gone viral on social media and have drawn a lot of negative comments. NAIA has been tagged as the Worst Airport in the world for the 2nd year in a row.

The photo shows two women clearly playing computer games despite the long line of people at the other window.

MANILA, Philippines - For the second year in a row The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 was named the worst airport in Asia by travel website Sleeping In Airports.

Sleeping In Airports stated their reasons, "With its collapsing ceilings, overcrowding, rampant bribery, and taxi drivers scamming travellers on fares, its easy to understand why 'disappointed' and 'unbelievable' are just a few of the words travellers use to describe Manila's Terminal 1."

"Travellers continue to complain about the long and numerous queues that begin outside the terminal. Once inside, there will be no time for naps and certainly no place for quiet rest and enjoyment as you'll be busy going through various queues for the next few hours as you proceed to your gate,"

Sleeping In Airports on Monday released the results of its 16th annual Best and Worst Airports for sleeping in or long transits.

The website also warned travellers to watch out for taxi drivers who rig their meters to jack up the fares.
