MANILA - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) may intervene in the love affair of Freddie Aguilar who is now 60 year old singer and her 16-year-old girlfriend.
The singer was criticized for his admitted relationship with a minor. A report said that the “Anak” singer may be sued for child abuse or seduction by being in a relationship with a minor.
The Revised Penal Code states that seduction of a girl who is under 18 years of age is considered a crime against chastity. While Child abuse is a public offense that can be filed by the DSWD for the victims under Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
“The girl is considered a minor under the law. That means she is vulnerable to abuse, and not yet capable to discern,” Dulfie Shalim a DSWD Protective Services Bureau officer said.
