A woman passenger complained that the jeepney driver she was riding sexually harassed her. She was crying while she was being interviewed, she recalled her traumatic experience, saying she will not forgive the suspect for what he did.
It happened last May 23, after her graveyard shift work at a fast-food restaurant chain she boarded a Fairview jeepney in Cubao to get home at around 6 a.m..
She sat in the front portion of the jeepney with plate number TVY 561. The back portion was already full of passengers at that time, she said.
The driver, identified as Emmanuel Escalona, later started bothering her and nag her to remove her bag that she had placed on her lap.
She also said that the she saw the driver suspiciously stare at her body. Although she was scared, she remained alert and started to take a video of the driver using her mobile phone.
The video shows that the driver regularly stares at the female passenger and he was captured sticking his tongue out.
When all other passengers are gone, the driver then suddenly touched her on her private part, she said.
Without wasting another second, Llacuni immediately jumped off the jeepney even though it was still in transit.
The 21-year-old immediately proceeded to the office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to report the incident and file a sexual harassment complaint against Escalona.
LTFRB Chairman Atty. Winston Ginez said they will recommend to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) that Escalona's driver's license be suspended.
"Ang mahalaga ay pagbawalan kaagad itong driver na ito sa kanyang pagmamaneho," Ginez said, noting the strong evidence that they have against Escalona.
A Malaysian naval patrol has detained three Filipino fishermen for encroaching in territorial waters in the disputed Spratlys this month, according to the Philippine military. This is the first incident involving the Southeast Asian neighbors.
The Philippines and Malaysia have overlapping exclusive economic zones in the disputed South China Sea. Many experts believed that the South China Sea is rich in deposits of oil and gas. The South China Sea is almost entirely claimed by China.
But Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also claim the sea, through which about $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year.
According to reports, on May 9, 2016 a Philippine vessel was about 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Commodore Reef, one of nine Philippine-held territories in the South China Sea, when a Malaysian patrol boat intercepted it for encroaching in territorial waters.
The Filipino vessel attempted to flee, however the Malaysian patrol vote gave chase and was able to caught up with the Philippine vessel. The Filipinos fishermen were detained and after a couple of hours they were turned over to Philippine troops stationed on Commodore Reef, a Philippine navy spokeswoman said.
"The Western Command is saddened by the incident involving our fellow Filipinos," Captain Cherryl Tindog said in a statement, adding that the fishermen received medical treatment. "They are in stable condition, except for some bruises."
The fishermen complained of having been punched and kicked during questioning by the Malaysian Navy after being apprehended, Tindog added.
"We were treated like criminals," Nelson Plamiano, one of the fishermen, told broadcaster GMA 7.

“Yang issue sa burial ni President Ferdinand Marcos sa Libingan ng mga Bayani has created division among our people… I am sure that I will erase among our people one hatred,” he added.
Since he was campaigning for the presidency, Duterte has expressed his approval to bury Marcos in the said burial grounds.

Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. chastise the overconfident camp of vice presidential race front-runner Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo for claiming victory in the hotly-contested race for the Vice-president position.
Brillantes, post on Twitter castigating Robredo’s camp for claiming the vice presidency “without a single canvass document being opened.”
He then lambaste very "presumptous" Robredo for asking Marcos to concede.
“How can Robredo claim victory when not a single official canvass document has been opened? Congress has not even convened as canvass body."
“Now Robredo wants BBM to concede based on alleged small unofficial lead. She cannot be that presumptuous,” Brillantes posted on his Twitter.
Brillantes had earlier said that he will represent Marcos during the canvassing of votes for the vice presidency.
Congress will convene as the national board of canvassers to declare the country’s next president and vice president on May 25.
On Sunday, Robredo said that it is “mathematically impossible” for Marcos to win the vice presidency and catch up with her lead.
Robredo’s camp said that even if all 168,988 registered voters from the nine remaining municipalities which have not transmitted their certificates of canvass would go to Marcos, they will still emerge victorious as the lawmaker is enjoying a lead of 257,567 votes as of Sunday afternoon.
According to the latest partial and unofficial tally provided by the Comelec’s transparency server, Robredo trumps Marcos with more than 219,000 votes.
Sandro Marcos, son of vice-presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., has accused the Aquino administration of cheating in the elections.
