Gilas Pilipinas Won Against Kazakhstan but Falls Short to Meet Quotient
MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas is out of the medal contention in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea even if they won against Kazakhstan, 67-65 since they didn't meet the quotient line. They should have won by at least 11 points to have a chance to advance to the semifinals. Gilas was leading as high as 18 points late in the 3rd quarter but Kazakhstan was able to bounce back and trimmed the lead to 67-60 at 1:23 of regulation.
Gilas even asked Marcus Douthit to shoot the ball at the opposing teams basket to go into overtime and have enough time to build an 11 point lead, however, the officials waived off Douthit’s basket as it violates Fiba’s so-called “spirit of fair play” rule.
