Viloria TKOs Marquez, unifies WBO, WBA
MANILA, Philippines — Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria scored a 10th round TKO victory over Hernán “Tyson” Marquez to unify the WBO and WBA flyweight belts Sunday in an exciting fight at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Viloria (32-3, 19KOs) connected on a vicious left hook that put down his Mexican foe.
Marquez, now the former WBA champion, (33-3, 25KOs) was able to get back on his feet but was visibly wobbly as Viloria went for the finish, prompting the Mexican’s corner to throw in the towel.
The back-and-forth battle ended at the 1:01 mark.
It was an action-packed fight as promised by the two fighters.
Round five saw Viloria in trouble after taking a blow from Marquez.
Marquez pummeled Viloria and seemed as if the Mexican was going for the finish. Viloria though, battled through it and somehow was able to answer back with a combination that dropped Marquez.
Marquez remained aggressive despite feeling Viloria’s power but the Filipino held his own, escaping the attacking Mexican with his footwork and timely punches.
